The IIYM Summer Music Academies, under the direction of Dr. Scott McBride Smith, is an internationally recognized course of intensive study for young pianists and string players, offering instruction of the highest caliber to students from around the world who wish to improve their mastery of performance. Students work with some of the world's most respected teachers.

IIYM Artist-Faculty members have achieved international recognition for their expertise in teaching and motivation, their students have won prizes at the Van Cliburn Competition, the Gilmore Festival, the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the ArtLivre Competition in Brazil, American String Teachers Association competitions, the Hamamatsu Competition in Japan, and in events sponsored by the Music Teachers National Association in the United States.

Private Lessons meet twice weekly on building technique, focusing, refinement of interpretation, and performance preparation. Students may request study under specific teachers upon acceptance into the Summer Institutes, although teacher assignments are not guaranteed.

Performance Opportunities exist in daily student recitals, master classes, and studio classes. Students are eligible to perform only upon the nomination of their IIYM artist-teacher. There is no limit to the number of times a student may perform, subject to time availability.

Ensembles are selected by audition. Students may audition for placement in chamber music groups or orchestra.
