Pianist Marietta Orlov studied with the renowned teacher Florica Musicescu (teacher of Dinu Lipatti and Radu Lupu) in her native Romania where she graduated
from the Faculty of Music in Bucharest with her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Performance. Marietta Orlov started her solo career at age 16. She was later appointed Romanian State soloist and was an active soloist for ten years before focusing in chamber
music performance. After moving to Vienna, she concertized extensively throughout most of European countries which included many radio and television
broadcasts. She has appeared regularly at the Prague Spring Festival, and the Bromsgrove (England) Festival, as well as festivals in Spain. Since immigrating to
Canada, Orlov has performed on the University of Toronto Faculty Artist Series, the Mooredale Concert Series and at the Guelph Spring Festival. Many of her
performances have been broadcast on the CBC Radio and Television networks.
A dedicated teacher renowned for fostering some of Canada's most promising young musicians, Marietta Orlov has taught at the Faculty of Music in Bucharest, the
Notre Dame College in Vienna and since 1978, at the Glenn Gould Professional School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In 1982, she was
appointed to the faculty at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music where she currently teaches piano and chamber music. Since 1994, Ms. Orlov has taught and
presented master classes at the Aria International Summer Academy and the Chautauqua Festival in New York. She has served as a juror at the Canadian Chopin
Piano Competition, the Toronto Symphony Women's Club National Competition, the Montreal Vienna Connection, Patrons of Wisdom International Competition,
the Women's Musical Club of Toronto competition, and the Guelph Spring Festival competition.
